I love this deeply and love following your journey as a fellow creative anti-capitalist business owner. TY for sharing so I can print and put on my office wall. 💓💓💓
Hi, just came across this whilst exploring substack. I have the same concerns, being an anti-capitalist, but the way I see it we live in a capitalist society with bills and rent to pay, as well as the need for food and clothes! It's very difficult to not participate. I don't know if you've read or come across the book Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative by Mark Fisher but it made a lot of sense to me. Anyway, glad I found your substack! Mine is pretty new so I'm a bit overwhelmed by it all haha! Very much enjoying discovering new writers though 😊
Thank you for sharing these thoughts! Maybe I wasn't 100% clear - I know it's impossible to not participate in capitalism as a whole, but what I mean here is that creativity specifically can be practiced in a fulfilling way outside of the capitalist framework. As in, there are parts of my practice that absolutely need to have nothing to do with money, and there is a way I can practice that rejects capitalism for the purpose of other kinds of fulfillment ♡ I will check out the book!
Sorry, I see what you mean, and I agree! Personally, I find that writing is therapeutic and also helps me understand the subject matter more. Like the actual act of writing is a learning experience in itself, even if it's just to demonstrate what I have inside waiting to be expressed! I hope you like the book.
I love this! I just found your Substack through a reader of yours and it's so wonderful to see someone else who is exploring creativity in a lot of the same contexts as I am! I'd love to connect 😁
That is a Nice Manifesto - good thing that its on Substack, else on Instragram it might elicit a TL:DR reaction, perhaps?
The manifesto reminds of recently reading about the GNU License and the Debian project - including their social contract (link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian_Social_Contract ), have you perhaps read that?
I had to look it up what season it referred to! Fall is between Summer and Winter it said - out here, we generally don't quite see 'fall' per se - There's Spring, of course, Summer, and then Rainy Season which goes "just a wee little shift from Rain-is-starting-now!" to "Hello, its Rains almost everyday for 3 hours" to "rains are almost - almost - done, wait for chilly weather" and then Winter! :)
Yes, absolutely this! I needed this manifesto after what was the hardest art fair ever… I just want to create and be free of the constraints that we have in our capitalist society. Thank you. I’m crying. Love you!!
