Creative practice is so important to me. There is always something it is teaching me and helping me explore. I believe that anyone can have a creative practice, and I have so much enthusiasm to share from mine in hopes to help you grow in your own, and for us to grow together.

This substack is about creative practice in relationship to self-discovery. I write to tell stories about how art-making connects to a deep experience of self, and to verbalize aspects of being an artist that I find to be very human, as a way of connecting with others.

What does creative practice mean to you?

I see creative practice as a stream of experiments, a tonic for the spirit, and an outlet to channel energy into anything that feels poetic and beautiful. I also believe that all of the above is meant for and accessible to anyone. Making art can unlock and bring to the surface a lot of our deepest stuff, I’m here to explore that and share it with you.

A little about me:

I am an artist working with natural pigments and small business owner creating sustainable paper goods in southeast Michigan. Years into running my business Worthwhile Paper, I began to feel strongly that I needed a personal art practice not tied at all to product consumerism. My creative energy was lacking fullness in freedom, and I needed to create purely for the sake of being, and for deeper inner exploration. I began to make abstract paintings as an endeavor for seeking, an outlet apart from my brand, and I began working with foraged natural pigments and making my own paints. My practice is continually expanding, contracting, broadening and deepening my perception of myself and the world.
