Hello to: Palette of the Month Club
When I began my Substack almost three years ago, it was (and still is) with the intention to bring words to some of the healing lessons, challenges and insights creative practice can offer. Everyone has access to creativity within, and I write to tell stories about how art-making connects to a deep experience of ourselves and our relationships with the world and each other, and to verbalize aspects of being an artist that I find to be very human, as a way of connecting with others.
As my own practice grows, I am finding fresh inspiration for what more I can share and offer in a way that helps me be engaged regularly.
I will share more about the inspiration for this project that has come over the last 6 months on another welcome posts on the Summer Solstice.
What is it, and what’s in it for you?
Palette of the Month Club is a monthly discovery of natural, foraged color. Each month I will create a palette of 3-5 hand made paints or inks using botanical, mineral or urban/household/waste stream pigments that I consciously forage through building relationship with each material. I will send full documentation of my process, recipes, and meaningful stories about my conversations with the beings-as-materials and people-as-places I discover. Subscribers will not only support my practice but will receive a few fun benefits, see below.
Action required to join:
These posts are available to paid subscribers. While generously giving without return is all-around more appealing to me, I also feel I should seek balance sometimes and remember to not undervalue myself! I’m putting a lot of myself into these new posts and hope you will enjoy them.
50% ($3.00 per month) of your subscription will go toward the Huron River Watershed Council, a local (to me) non-profit that works to protect our Huron River, which is constantly under threat of pollution.
Subscriber benefits:
For a low but very supportive commitment of $6 a month, you will receive the below:
MONTHLY PAINTING GIVEAWAY
Each month, one lucky paid subscriber will be randomly selected to receive an original, one-of-a-kind painting made with the Palette of the Month, signed, dated, and shipped to you free of charge.
EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNTS ON ORIGINAL ART
As a subscriber, you will enjoy 20% off my original paintings when I release a series, and on commissions when I open them.
RECIPES, PROCESS, STORY, RESOURCES
Each month you will receive a special email with my process, recipes, resources, and stories about my relationship with the pigments. This may hopefully inspire you to see things around you differently, discover magic alongside me, and maybe even try for yourself and share some colors you make! Knowing me, I will also share vulnerably with any challenges that are inevitable to arise and be really up front about my process, failures included.
JOY OF NON-TRADITIONAL SUPPORT
As a subscriber, you will be directly supporting my art practice in a radical way that truly makes a difference in my ability to be a working artist in a non-traditional manner. Your contribution helps me give vibrantly, not only to myself, but generously to others!
THE GIFT OF ACCOUNTABILITY
This is more of a benefit to me, but your subscription will literally keep me going. I thrive when I have accountability and something to look forward to sharing regularly and with deadlines. It also helps my materials stay rooted in time. By staying accountable I hope to grow as an artist and find more ways to give.
Subscribe now!
A welcome post will go out on the Solstice, and the first palette and a celebratory painting giveaway will happen at the end June! If you are already a paid subscriber, thank you! Now you get a lot of extra fun stuff coming your way.
From the bottom of my heart,
It would mean the world to me if you considered joining this adventure with me and/or sharing it with someone who you think would enjoy it by forwarding this email or sharing:
P.S. I love the word “palette”. When you break it down to “pal”, as in a friend, and “ette”, as in a small version of something, then palette translates to “little friend”.
With gratitude,
- Kristen
